Our occasional publication Thumb is included in the exhibition/archive DE ZINE taking place at La Casa Encendida in Madrid, Spain. From their website: “De Zines”, organised by Roberto Vidal and Óscar Martín, aims to reflect what is happening in contemporary publishing concerning independent publications; how this field relates to the field of artistic production and the contemporary social, cultural and political environment." Thumb has been included on the Center for Architecture's 2010 Graphic Design Shortlist. Offices on the list will be working with the Architecture Center throughout the year on selected projects.
The Columbia School of Journalism Toni Stabile Student Center was honored with a "Best in Category" award in the Architect Magazine Annual Design Review. We worked with Marble Fairbanks, the architects of the project, to develop the environmental graphics and wayfinding system. See more here.
Toward the Sentient City
Toward the Sentient City, an exhibition produced by The Architectural League of New York concerning ubiquitous/pervasive computing and its relation to urbanism, opened on September 17. Thumb worked with curator Mark Shephard and the Greg Wessner of the League to bring this spatially distributed exhibition to the public. See more on the exhibition at the web site here.
International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam (IABR), The Open City
Thumb worked with Interboro Partners, the New York urban design, architecture and planning office, on the exhibition design for the American section, "Community," of the 2009 IABR. The exhibition opened September 27 and runs through January 2010. See more about the IABR here.
LentSpace
LentSpace, the new outdoor public platform for contemporary art and performance located on Canal and Varick Streets in New York, opened to the public on September 18. Thumb worked with the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council to establish the graphic identity of LentSpace and to produce a 216 feet long installation piece that is mounted to the space's operable fence that faces Sullivan Street.

"Books and Architecture" at Yale School of Architecture
The Yale School of Architecture is currently offering the Books and Architecture seminar organized by Luke Bulman. The focus is again on content/organization/distribution of books, culminating in each seminar member's proposition for their own book. This semester offers a different set of precedents, shifting the focus from canonical publications towards a more varied field of inquiry.
